Wedding Reception Adventures

So I was at a couple of friends' wedding reception in Pune last weekend. It was at some swanky 4 star hotel place. As usual we were late... due to another adventure of a sartorial kind. Being six yards savvy is an ice breaker.

Anyway, we land up at about 9 and ask which floor the happy event is on. We're told it's the first floor. There's another wedding party so all elevators are jam packed. First floor, right, we'll take the stairs. The nice receptionist says wait for the elevator. It's pretty hard squeezing past the Baraat to the stairs, getting into an elevator would be well nigh impossible. So stairs it is.

I'm wearing my new pair of dressy heels. These are the narrow ones that are exactly my second pair of heels. They're 3 inches high, and for a five fiver, they aren't quite necessary though they do make one feel good.

So I climb the first flight. Hmm, no party hall or anything. I ask a steward, down a rather rabbit hole like corridor and he points upstairs. OK, next floor. No, no wedding party. Next floor it is.

There are also other guests, I don't know from which party who're trudging along behind me, and there's a young boy scampering up the stairs just ahead of me.

Third floor. There's a wedding party. Finally!

It's not the one I'm looking for. Its the throng from the elevator party. The elevator opens up, but its full of people going to the same place I'm going. Keep Walking.

Fourth floor - Duster cloths, turp and renovation material. Fifth floor, more of the same. Did I mention I'm carrying a nice big bouquet of flowers to hand over to someone who will hand it to the happy couple? Hey, at least I didn't have to pick up the bouquet. That would have been another adventure in an unknown city. Next time, maybe?

Sixth floor, more renovation stuff. I'm thinking I should have waited for the elevator. I need exercise, but just before a meet and greet and dinner?

Seventh Floor. Finally.

Reception for - &-

Now I just have to hand over the flowers. And enjoy.

Now I know why the receptionist said wait for the elevator.
